About Oregon

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc., develops character, leadership, confidence and a sense of community in youth through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports.

Oregon Region of Pony Club is an affiliate of the United State Pony Club.  We run according to the by-laws of the national organization yet we are singularly a Pacific Northwest subsidiary.  Where else expects rain, snow, or even hail during our spring rallies?

Our membership is made up of both youth members (pony clubbers) and adult members (horsemasters) who share a love of horses and enjoy socializing with like-minded individuals.  Our parents and volunteers are what make the logistics of our Pony Club work.  Through their dedication of time and effort, the members go to lessons, horse management events, and rallies.  Membership in Pony Club requires a strong commitment from our members and their parents/guardians.  If you are a parent, youth, or adult rider looking for a great way to further your equestrian experience, please contact us for more information.  We welcome new members at any time during the year, all year long.

Pony Club is the largest equestrian educational organization in the world.  This is where it all begins! The cornerstones of our foundation are education, safety, sportsmanship, stewardship and FUN. Members learn riding and the care of horses through mounted sports. The skills, habits and values instilled through horsemanship will apply to every part of a member’s life.

Participating members have access to the Pony Club online community, sponsor discounts, educational standards and achievements, a Pony Club Pin, and the chance to participate in activities such as lessons and certifications, rallies and competitions, Championships and Pony Club Festival. A host of additional programs such as international exchanges, USEF Pony Finals, Dressage for Kids, National Youth Board, National Youth Congress, scholarships, and the Visiting Instructors Program are available to members who develop and progress through Pony Club. Many of our graduates feel that Pony Club helped shape their character and the choices they have made as adults.

Pony Club creates athletes through organized teamwork and responsible leadership. The challenge of reaching riding goals and becoming active horsemen and women encourage Pony Club members to become both better athletes and ambassadors for their sport. The Pony Club Standards of Proficiency outline skills needed to ride well and stress being able to safely and responsibly care for their equine partners. Members have opportunities to compete in the disciplines of Dressage, Show Jumping, Games, Polocrosse, Tetrathlon, Eventing, and Western as well as the mental sport of Quiz. Pony Club offers instruction and competitive opportunities to members in several other disciplines as well.

Much like the Olympic Equestrian Teams, Pony Club organized competitions are team based. While portions of the competition are scored based on each individual’s performance, it is by working together that all team members perform to the best of their ability.  Awards are given both individually and for teams based on accumulation of points for horsemanship skills as well as riding.

Pony Club is dedicated to producing tomorrow’s leaders while focusing on our core values. Through good horsemanship, members learn teamwork, respect, responsibility, and good stewardship. Our education is provided at each individual’s own pace to help achieve personal goals and expand knowledge through teaching others. Opportunities abound for members to join youth boards and councils, participate in international exchanges and be a part of competitions throughout the United States and the world. Many of our graduates go on to leadership positions in all aspects of life.

Come to our events, watch a lesson, chat with our members and see if Pony Club is a good fit for you!
