2008 Oregon Modified Show Jumping Rally

ELIGIBILITY:   D1 and above

                        The horse/pony must be at least 5 years of age.

The horse/pony must be the rider’s regular Pony Club mount.

RULES:          

The Rally is governed by USPC Rules for Show Jumping Competition 2008 including the 2005 Addenda and the 2008 SJ Newsletter, and the USPC Horse Management Handbook and Rules for Competition 2007. Please be familiar with these rulebooks. In addition, the USEF Show Jumping Rules for 2008 are referred to if additional guidance is needed during the Equitation Round. 

WRITTEN TEST:

A written test for each rating level will be given.  Questions will be gathered from the USPC Horse Management Handbook and Rules for Competition 2007, Pony Club Manuals, and the Show Jumping Rule Book 2008, including the 2005 Addenda and the 2008 SJ Newsletter .

QUALIFICATION:

Non qualifying Rally

COMPETITION AND AWARDS:

This will be a team competition, using team scores for overall placement and for horse management placement. Teams may be made up of any combination of Trot a Pole, Grasshopper 1, Grasshopper 2, Grasshopper 3, and Large Pony/Horse I Modified.  Multiple teams from clubs will be accepted.  Awards will be given to all teams for the overall competition and for horse management. 

Accommodations are the responsibility of the teams.  RV’s with water and electricity cost $20 per night and $17.00 per night with electricity only.  Please contact Linn County Fair & Expo Center directly if you wish to stay on the grounds with your RV.

DIVISIONS:

All classes are as follows:  See 2008 Rules for Show Jumping Competition. All scores will be negative.

1.                  Baby Grasshopper……………………………………….Trot a Pole to 12”

2.                  Grasshopper 1……………………………………………..12” to 18”           

3.                  Grasshopper 2……………………………………………..2’ to 2’6”

4.                  Grasshopper 3……………………………………………..2’6” to 2’9” 

5.                  Large Pony/Horse 1 (Modified Division).………..2’9” to 3’3”

The three rounds for each class are: Normal Knockdown, Equitation (to be scored as a Normal Knockdown round) and Fault and Out.  Please refer to the Show Jumping Rulebook for a description and rules for each round.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Medical Releases for each competitor must be included with the entry. Forms are available by going to http://www.ponyclub.org/  select the Forms tab and go to “M” for Medical Release.

Refunds will be given only with receipt of a doctor’s or veterinarian’s certificate.  Up to the closing date, a $5.00 administration fee will be charged; after the closing date a $15.00 fee will be charged.  The remainder of the entry fee will be refunded upon such receipt.

OPENING DATE is August 19, 2008

CLOSING DATE is September 8, 2008

If you do not have a full team but have catch riders, please try to form a team with another Pony Club.  If you cannot do this, send the catch riders in as an entry, and the organizing committee will try to place catch teams together. 

DC’S have the responsibility to place each horse/rider combination in the most suitable division. 

Each team is required to furnish two volunteers who will assist at the rally.  Volunteer forms are enclosed; please note assignment preferences.

CHAPERONES AND COACHES:

Each team must be accompanied by a Chaperone and a Coach, and a signed copy of the enclosed Guidelines must be submitted with the entry.  All Coaches and Chaperones must check in with the Rally Office upon arrival.  The Chaperone and the Coach may not be the same person and a coach may only coach one team.  

Chaperones will follow the chaperone guidelines as outlined by USPC. A Chaperone must be 21 or older and is responsible for the conduct of those competitors in his/her charge.  The Chaperone must carry an Emergency Medical Release for each competitor, and a Horse Emergency Release for each horse on the team.  The Chaperone must stay on the Rally Grounds at all times during the rally competition, or must designate another adult to be responsible for the team if he/she must leave; the Rally Office must be notified of this change.  Go to http://www.ponyclub.org/ and select the Forms tab and go to “C” for Chaperone Rules/Duties.

Coaches will follow the coaching guidelines as outlined in the “Guidelines for Coaching at USPC Show Jumping Competitions” found in the 2008 “USPC Handbook and Rules for Show Jumping Competition.”  Coaches are required to attend a meeting scheduled immediately following the first Rally briefing. Go to http://www.ponyclub.org/ and select the Forms tab and go to “C” for Coaching Guidelines Show Jumping.

FOOD:

Meals or snacks are not included in the entry fee. There will be a concession stand available to purchase food or snacks if desired.  You may bring in your own food or eating establishments are also available nearby. Water coolers will be available, please bring your own water bottle to refill as needed.  

HORSE LODGING:

Stalls will be available on Friday after 4:00pm.  All horses should be on the premises by 11:00pm.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Rally Apparel

Polo Shirts commemorating the rally will be available for advanced purchase.  Please indicate the number and sizes of the shirts that you would like to order on your entry form and include the cost in your entry fee.  The polo shirts will be available for pick up with your club packet.  

Photo CDs

If riders would like photos taken of their jumping, a photo CD may be purchased for $25.00.  Please indicate on the entry form if you are interested in this service. 

Briefing

The first official Rally briefing will be a team meeting at 8:00 am Saturday morning. This meeting is open to rally competitors, officials (including AHMJ’s) and parents. Parents and Chaperones may attend but are not allowed to comment.  If there are questions concerning the facilities, etc., parents or chaperones may inquire at the Rally Office.

Teams arrive on Friday evening beginning at 4:00pm., September 26th. Both Feed and Tack Room setup may be done at this time by TEAM MEMBERS ONLY (although adults may help carry heavy items for young pony clubbers). Please come prepared to put up stall and feed cards upon arrival. A Warm-up area for horses will be available for hand walking horses prior to Rally.  No washing of horses will be allowed.

Parking

There is plenty of parking for trailers and cars at the facility.  Upon your arrival, you will be directed to a parking place for your trailer once unloaded.
