Horse Management Customized Google Search

You and your club members are invited to use Misty Mountain Pony Club's customized Google search to find information on horse management topics.
Created to supplement the materials in the Misty Mountain Pony Club library, I have set up this customized Google search to focus on selected web sites which have a variety of horse management articles.

2008 Horse Management Newsletter

The Horse Management Committee has posted the 2008 Horse Management
Newsletter and two new HM rally evaluations on the Pony Club website,  www.ponyclub.org  under 'Publications', 'Rulebooks', 'Horse Management'.

A copy of this annual newsletter must be included in the Horse Management rulebook, which is a part of Tack Room Equipment in Required Equipment for Rallies.

We have three new items of interest for the 2008 rally season:

* C+ and HB rated members will compete as C2's in Horse Management.

* As announced last year, the Required Equipment Amplification is available on http://hm.ponyclub.org under 'Rally Resources'.

* We have created two new HM rally evaluations, which are in a PDF file labeled 'Addendum B'. They have also been incorporated into the full version of the 2007 HM Rulebook.

- #9A - Competitor HM Evaluation: replaces the old #9A, Horse Management Evaluation. We have revamped the evaluation to better help regions determine what horse management topics to emphasis in their teaching, and an overall 'star rating' of how Horse Management
was at that rally. Each team should fill out one evaluation, however an individual competitor may fill out their own evaluation if they request.

- #9A-2 - Officials HM Evaluation: this is a new evaluation to be completed by the assistant HM judges, RS's, organizers, HMO's, etc.

These two forms may be copied back to back. Please destroy any old copies of previous evaluations, our data entry system will be changed to handle the new format and won't be able to handle the old ones.

We estimate we received less than 50% of rally evaluations for 2007. We can do much better than that. The information they contain is very valuable and will help all of us make rallies better. Also, we really like our Instruction Assistant, Pat, so please send the evaluations in within ten days of a rally (we don't want her desk snowed under in November).

Wishing you a happy and safe 2008 rally season,

Mary Waldman
Chair, HM Committee

Helmet safety poster

This is a great poster on helmet safety & fitting that I brought small printouts of to the April HM seminar. Here's the poster:

It can be ordered from the University of Vermont for $2@ + s/h. It would be a great teaching aid and an educational & safety oriented addition to any riding stable's bulletin board. Ordering info:

Dr Clair Thunes, an equine nutrition expert who runs an independant equine nutrition and management consulting company, publishes a semi-monthly equine nutrition newsletter that is very informative and useful at all levels of Pony Club. The newsletter is purely an educational service to horse owners and is written in a very practical and useful format.

Dr Thunes is a graduate B pony clubber from the UK and a DC here in the US. She is currently starting a series in her newsletter about the equine digestive tract and how it functions, how to understand feed labels, and what are essential amino acids which relate to the HB and HA ratings. Back issues of her newsletter are also available on this group site. This information will be very useful to those teaching nutrition at the club level and upper level members studying
for their ratings.

Her newsletter is available at: http://groups.google.com/group/equine-nutrition
